EXCITING NEWS!

The last 2 days have been so exciting. Yesterday was Reese's FIRST SEIZURE-FREE DAY!!! So far--at 3:46 PM today--we are seizure-free for the second day in a row!!! PRAISE THE LORD!
We just happened to have our 3-month appointment with our Neurologist and Dietician today. They were thrilled--almost giddy.:) Our Neuro said it must be the Ketogenic Diet that is working! So, he gave me the go-ahead to start weaning the Depakote in one month. He wants to give her a month to enjoy this new seizure freedom and to find her baseline--we are assuming it will continue--and then try to wean the next med. Here is a synopsis of how the Diet can heal:
The following was taken from a script for a news short our family did
in conjunction with Mayo Clinic: "DR. ELAINE WIRRELL (Mayo Clinic)
SAYS WHEN YOU BURN FAT INSTEAD OF CARBOHYDRATES YOUR BODY PRODUCES
CHEMICALS CALLED KETONES. THIS STATE OF KETOSIS CHANGES THE
METABOLISM OF YOUR BRAIN. THE THEORY IS THAT KETOSIS MAY STABILIZE
CELL MEMBRANES, MAKING THEM LESS LIKELY TO SEIZE." It's my
understanding that when ketones stabilize cell membranes long-term,
this can effectively cure epilepsy.

Isn't that amazing??? Reese off of the Phenobarbital is so much better!!! I can't wait to wean the rest.
Please pray for continued FREEDOM!!!!

  2. Praise the Lord!!!!! We have become very familiar with ketones since Daniel's diagnosis with Diabetes--in his case, we do not want ketones. Anyway, I'm so thankful to hear this news!! Praying along with you for freedom!

  3. I'm so happy to hear this news. My daughter is also on the keto diet -- we haven't seen a seizure-free day yet, but she is doing much better than before. All the best on the Depakote wean!

  4. PRAISE THE LORD !!!! Kerry and Mario ~~ have not written on your blog before, though checking in with you regularly, but today I just have to rejoice with you online ! Thank You, Jesus, thank You. How kind and gracious You are to give young Reese this blessed respite from seizures and fill us all with giant hope ("confident expectation and certainty that all your promises are yea and amen")and we are simultaneously filled with gratitude, thanks, awe, and praise for your mighty Presence in the midst of this precious-to-us and precious-to-You family. Thank You, Lord. Thank You. You ARE LORD.
